3D-printing and modelling

An artisan in 3D-printing and modelling designs products and produces them using 3D-printing technics like FDM, SLA, SLS, SLM and Material Jetting. The students also make models and product prototypes using both manual equipment and machines. The studies also include the making of drafts and presentation images with different techniques and the usage of image processing and 3D modelling programs. The profession requires a visual eye, manual skills and three-dimensional perception capacity.

The graduates can work in industry, design and architecture offices, museums, research institutions and as entrepreneurs. The studies offer a good starting point for continuing studies in Higher Education in the field of design.

Arts and Crafts Course Instructor

A crafts and design course instructor artisan designs and realises different short courses and acts as their instructor. During the studies, the students become familiar with, for example, wood, metal, textile, furniture restoration and glass. Knowledge of different materials and techniques gives opportunities for combining them innovatively.

Crafts and design course instructor artisans work at adult education centres, workshops, in elderly care and as entrepreneurs.

Audiovisual Communication / Event planning and building

The art forms of the profession include photography, video filming and live sound.

The studies are practical and project-oriented, but the studies also include business planning and project management as well as theory related to the vocational subjects, such as picture composition, image aesthetics and equipment technology.

The training focuses on the event planning and building according to the customer’s wishes, but, if necessary, the graduates are able to produce an entire event.

The employment opportunities for graduate students in the event industry are diverse. A graduate may find his/her career for instance as a cinematographer, a rock band lighting technician or a podcast producer.

Building Restoration

A building restorer repairs the built environment paying special attention to the cultural-historical values of the site and to old construction methods. In restoration, traditional materials and manual work methods are used and ecology and sustainable development are taken into account.

Cabinet Making

A cabinetmaker is a woodworking professional making fine articles of wooden furniture. A cabinetmaker mainly makes furniture from solid wood; the training comprises the designing of the product as well as all the different phases of its making. A cabinetmaker knows the journey of solid wood all the way from the sawmill into a ready product. The profession requires manual skills, proactivity, cooperation skills, perseverance, desire to experiment and creativity.

An artisan in the field of clothing knows how to design and make high-quality products suitable for the customer’s body and personal style, both for everyday use and for festive occasions. The profession requires accuracy and care, logical thinking, perception skills, manual skills, efficiency, creativity, cultural knowledge, aesthetics of colours and forms and knowledge of styles and trends.

Clothing artisans work in sales in the field, sewing shops and other companies in the clothing field and as entrepreneurs.

Furniture Restoration

Furniture restorers work with antique objects respecting traditional values and working methods. The studies may be directed either to wood restoration, the restoration of finishes or traditional upholstery work. The profession requires creativity, manual skills, respect of traditions, cooperation skills and customer service orientation.

A glassblower blows glass objects with basic and special techniques. He or she knows the whole manufacturing process, from the melting of the glass to the inspection and finishing treatment of the ready product, and the requirements set by a glass studio as a working environment. The profession requires skill, accuracy and physical stamina.

Glassblowers work within the utility and art glass industry, and as entrepreneurs.

Glass Jewellery Design

The glass jewellery design artisan designs and makes jewellery. The central material in jewellery making is glass in many different forms. During the studies, the student becomes familiar with different glass working techniques. In addition to glass, the student also receives a wide-ranging instruction on the use of other materials in jewellery making.

Guitar Making

A guitar maker builds, repairs and services stringed instruments, such as guitars, basses, mandolins, etc. The profession requires manual skills, perseverance, commitment and interest in and knowledge about music.

Guitar builders work in instrument building companies or as entrepreneurs and also as musicians, sound controllers and joiners.


A gunsmith repairs, restores and manufactures guns. In the field, it is typical to work with different materials, such as wood and metal. Gunsmithing requires a steady hand, capacity for persistent work, creative thinking, innovativeness, and, above all, a hobby related to guns and an impeccable background.

Gunsmiths work in gun stores, gun repair shops, gun workshops, for the Defence Forces and as entrepreneurs.


A special metal artisan works metal into many different products, objects and structures, which combine design, new technology and traditional handicrafts. The profession requires knowledge of different metal materials, mastery of work technologies as well as skill and accuracy. The emphasis of the studies can be on metal forging, casting, welding techniques or machining, for example.

Scale Model Building

A scale model builder makes models to different scales and for different purposes. The work varies from simple technical scale models all the way to demanding architectural models. The training also includes 3D rapid production. The profession requires accuracy, problem-solving skills, creativity, a good ability to concentrate and three-dimensional perception skills.

Model builders work in museums, stage property rooms, theatres and architecture offices.

Stained Glass

A stained glass artisan makes products from coloured glass with many different  techniques. During the studies, the student becomes familiar with, for example, the copper foil, lead cane, glass painting and fusing tehcniques. The profession requires creativity and drawing skills.

An artisan in the textile field designs and makes different textiles diversely by weaving and other techinques. The training emphasises entrepreneurship and customer orientation. The profession requires manual skills and interest in different techniques and materials.

Graphic Design

A graphic designer is a conveyor of a visual message. A graphic designer listens to the customer’s wishes and fulfills them using his or her own creativity. A professional should know how to design visual entities for different media. The profession requires visual skills, creativity, customer orientation and cooperation skills. The studies combine manual work with IT skills.

Graphic designers work in graphic design companies, advertisement agencies, communications offices, digital offices, publishers (newspapers, magazines), television companies and as entrepreneurs.
