OSTU – e-tool for the recognition of prior competences

OSTU is a simple learner-centred e-tool for the recognition of prior competences in general subjects. It accompanies the students all through their studies and helps them to identify and monitor the progress of their own competences with the help of learning analytics.

Recognition of students’ prior competences is a big issue in Finnish VET at the moment; all prior competences are to be recognised for students, and there are exact national guidelines on how to do it. With OSTU, the process is easy, equal for all our students and consistent with the national guidelines, and it also helps ensure the quality of the competences. OSTU helps both the student and the teacher spare their resources on the competences that are yet to be acquired.

In 2019, OSTU was a finalist in for the Quality Innovation Award (Finnish Quality Association).
