Aircraft Maintenance Technician
An aircraft maintenance technician is a machine fitter specialised in the installation, maintenance and repair of aircraft or helicopters. The profession requires strong technical know-how and care, responsibility and cooperation skills.
Aircraft maintenance technicians work for airline companies, air service companies, the Finnish Defence Forces, aircraft repair shops and companies manufacturing aircraft.

Automation Assembler
An automation assembler installs, uses, services and performs maintenance tasks for industrial electric machinery and equipment. Automation assemblers are specialised industrial electricians. In addition to technical know-how, the profession requires an ability to work independently as well as cooperation skills.
Automation assemblers work in industrial companies, waterworks and within food and pharmaceutical industries. Automation assemblers may also work as electricians.

Beauty Therapist
A beauty therapist is a beauty care professional whose work seeks to promote and maintain the beauty and health of the skin and body. The customer is cared for according to his or her individual needs with the help of many products and equipment developed for skin and body care. The profession requires accuracy, customer service skills and manual skills.
Beauty therapists work for beauty salons, spas, pharmacies, cosmetics stores and importers of cosmetics. Most beauty therapists work as entrepreneurs.

Builder
A builder is a versatile construction field professional whose diverse tasks may include nearly all work related to building houses or constructing out of concrete. He or she works at sites where new constructions are being built or older buildings are being renovated.
The profession requires manual skills, problem-solving skills, capacity for independent working and good physical condition.
Builders mainly work for construction companies and the construction product industry.

The Vocational Qualification in Business and Administration prepares the student for many different professions in private companies, in the public sector and in different organisations. The profession requires an orientation for customer service and sales.

Hairdresser
A hairdresser cuts hair and does beard treatments, cares for hair and the scalp, dyes hair and performs different permanent wave treatments. He or she does hairstyles and makeup and advises the customer on hair and scalp care and the use of cosmetic products. The profession requires customer service and interaction skills, manual skills and aesthetic vision.
Hairdressers work as entrepreneurs and in hairdressing companies. Hairdressers also work in sales, consulting and educational tasks and for theatre and media companies.

A housekeeper offers care, nursing and assistance in the housework. The profession requires a practical and methodological approach, communication skills, sense of responsibility and genuine caring about the customers’ well-being.
A housekeeper works at the customers’ homes, cafes, catering services and companies offering housekeeping services. The graduates have excellent eemployment opportunities as personal assistants within the social and health care sector.

Information and Telecommunications Technology
An ICT technician services and maintains the IT systems of companies. He or she knows the different networks and IT systems and is able to perform their installation and programming. The profession requires customer service skills, logical thinking, good ability to concentrate, accuracy and proactivity. The fast-developing field challenges an ICT technician to constantly update his or her skills and to learn new things.
ICT technicians work within the electronics industry, companies maintaining information networks and companies offering products and services in the ICT field.

Machinist
A machinist manufactures metal pieces and machine parts through different processing methods. In addition to manually operated machines, parts are manufactured with computer-operated machine tools. The profession requires knowledge of processing technologies, work machines and materials used, as well as accuracy, care and cooperation skills.
Machinists mainly work in machine shops and metal workshops.

Plater-welder
A plater-welder manufactures products from metal plates according to technical drawings, using different manual and computer-aided sheet metal work and welding machines. In addition to the mastery of metal processing technologies and knowledge of materials, the profession requires, for example, an ability to read technical drawings, quality consciousness and good cooperation skills.
Plater-welders work in machine shops, workshops, dockyards, repair shops and factories. Plater-welders may also work in different fields, such as the construction industry.

Practical Nurse
The work of a practical nurse is basic care work consisting of educational, care and rehabilitation tasks. The wide-ranging qualification provides the preconditions for flexible transitions within the social and health care sector. Human relation and interaction skills are central in the profession.
Practical nurses work in daycare, schools, home services, service and activity centres for the disabled, day hospitals, health centre wards, assisted living communities, retirement homes and hospitals.

Pre-vocational studies
These studies have been developed for the transition point between basic education and upper secondary level. They are aimed at supporting successful transitions from one level to the next as well as endorsing the continuity of students’ lifelong study tracks.
Prior to starting education leading to an upper secondary vocational qualification, students may apply for pre-vocational programmes preparing for vocational studies, where necessary.
The studies are directed at young people without a clear idea of their career choice or without sufficient capabilities to apply for or cope with vocational studies. The studies last approximately one year (60 credits) and each student studies in accordance with his or her individual study plan. We provide the students with the opportunity to:
- improve their competence for knowledge acquisition
- improve their linguistic skills
- try out different professions
- develop their life-long learning skills
- prepare for work and independent living
- get acquainted with the world of work through company visits and workshop activities
- learn about different opportunities for further education
- prepare for completing an upper secondary vocational qualification either school-based or as apprenticeship training
Receptionist
A hotel receptionist manages customer service at the reception desks of different accommodation providers. He or she accepts room reservations and takes care of customer check-ins and check-outs and billing. The quickly-changing customer service situations require flexibility, ability to cope with stress, as well as interaction and organisational skills.
Hotel receptionists work at hotels, spa hotels, hostels, apartment hotels, guest houses, boarding and holiday houses and motels.

Vehicle Mechanic
A vehicle mechanic repairs cars, vans and trucks and provides periodic maintenance on them. The work requires a versatile command of technology, manual skills and customer service skills.
Vehicle mechanics work in car dealerships, car repair shops and transportation companies. They may also work in an industry that produces vehicle bodies, special- purpose vehicles and trailers.

A waiter presents meals and drinks to customers, receives orders, serves the meals and drinks and delivers the bill to the customers. Flexibility, organisational skills and service orientation are the basic demands for waiters, who work within sales and customer service in different types of restaurants.
Waiters work at hotel restaurants, dining restaurants, lunch or personnel restaurants, dance restaurants, pubs, nightclubs, discos, music bars, restaurant cars and ships.
